CHIEF, COMPUTER SUPPORT BRANCH, PENTAGON 1992 - 1993
1. To achieve economies of scale, proposed plan to merge two government agencies and two large contracting staffs, all providing office automation support to various sections of the same 1,000-person Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition (OUSD(A)) and its $86 million network. Personally took on this complex and highly sensitive project, successfully integrating all four agencies into a single highly efficient, customer-oriented operation, eliminating duplication of effort and saving $100,000+ in annual contractor staffing costs.
2. As Chief of this consolidated organization, supervised activities of 6 military personnel, 8 civilians, and 20 contractors
3. Incorporated communication system which allowed customers to contact the support branch via electronic mail, telephone, fax, voice mail, or in person, reducing frustration level experienced by users when unable to establish telephonic contact
4. To maximize performance of unstable network, modified and incorporated UNIX program to regularly test all connections to 100+ servers with immediate action taken if server didn't respond
