Approached by Betac Corporation to apply for this Senior Systems Analyst one-year contract position. Supervisor based in Stuttgart, Germany. Security Clearance: Top Secret.
1. Responsible for variety of initiatives to ensure US Navy bases and ships in Europe and the Mediterranean were prepared for 1 January 2000. Member of the US Naval Forces in Europe Y2K Executive Steering Committee attended by top-level Navy executives, led these meetings and also oversaw all US Navy Europe Y2K matters in the absence of the Project Manager, tasked Navy bases as needed, managed Y2K testing of thousands of computers throughout Europe, developed web pages to channel information to subordinate Navy Y2K Project Managers as well as to the public, wrote Y2K articles for publication for Navy bases in Europe, and oversaw other Y2K technical and project management issues.
2. Tasked to be Headquarters Naval Forces in Europe's resident expert for totally unfamiliar software tool, ClickNet Y2K, in order to oversee Y2K compliancy testing of US Navy computers based in Europe and the Mediterranean
3. With no previous professional experience, created HQ US Navy Europe's Y2K Web Pages from the ground up
4. Volunteered to spend five weeks filling in at HQ USAFE Communications Directorate at Ramstein AB, Germany when an ACS Defense employee departed at short notice. Quickly assimilated into the new environment, analyzed hundreds of documents, and made several concrete Y2K Lessons Learned recommendations to the USAFE Commander, particularly in the area of Continuity of Operations Plans.
5. Participated in Navy IT Systems Configuration Management Working Group at the Chief of Naval Operations-sponsored Y2K Lessons Learned conferences at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and Pensacola, Florida, assisting in developing recommendations which were part of a Navy report submitted to Congress.
