Cars : Oulton Park 18th August 2002

There were fewer races than scheduled this year due to a major pile up on the GT race. The crash happened when an unexpected change in the weather led to most of the cars being on the track with slick tyres when a torrential downpour occured. You can guess what happened next.

Many cars were badly damaged in the crash and the cars had to be towed back to the pits.

This sorry looking car appears to have caught fire during the incident.
This car wasn't looking at its best after the incident. Note the engine cover lying on the back of the tow truck.
This car wasn't involved in the main pile up, instead the unexpectly heavy rain led to the car spinning and crashing into a grass bank.
This car looked out of sorts, aren't all the wheels supposed to be attached to the car?
The track was cleared. None of the drivers were seriously injured. Apparently the most injured person was one of the stewards who was bruised.

The race was finally restarted, but there were fewer cars in the race after the crash.
This porche was another veteran of the crash.

Once all the debris had been cleared from the race track some of the additional races occurred as scheduled. The formula III cars were really fast and consequently my photographs came out fuzzy. The open topped sports cars (Caterams?) photographs also didn't come out well.
