Cars : Promenade Stages Rally 27th July 2002

The Promenade Stages took places at New Brighton Promenade. The more observant viewers will notice that I finally updated my course map. Each stage or the rally involved the same roads, but with a different route around the hazards. The layout of this rally stage is shown below.

It was amazingly sunny for the rally. Even though I wore a cap I still got a sunburnt face.

Your eyes are not deceiving you, there really was a Volvo racing in the rally
Here is an old favourite. If you look really closely you can see some of the trim is hanging off the car and the passenger side mirror seems to be missing. I suspect the car got closer than usual to one of the chicanes.
This pictures shows a new Ford Focus chasing a Ford Escort Mk II.
Some of the cars got surprisingly close at the hairpin turn. Look how close the Vauxhall Astra came to the Peugeot 205!
Here is a Ford Escort catching up with a Talbot Sunbeam. The two co-drivers here seem to be sharing a worried glances at each others cars.
Some people get hot under the collar when driving. This team had engine troubles. When they openned the bonnet the problem was readily apparent, the engine was on fire. The fire was quickly and safely put out.
This Ford Sierra certainly smoked its tyres accelerating away from the hairpin turn.
This car appeared to have a broken exhaust system (see the smoke coming out of the bonnet. It didn't seem to slow them down, the amount of smoke coming from the tyres reminds me of dragster racing.
