Cars : Promenade Stages Rally 26th July 2003

This year the weather was as varied as the 90 cars. One minute I was eating an ice cream to cool down and next the rain was pouring down. There were more than 10,000 spectators at the event.

The promenade stage rally has been held each year since 1981. Numerous different drivers have won in a quite a few different makes of cars. Some of the cars that have won previously are: Talbot Sunbeam BDG, Ford Escort Mk 2, MG metro 6R4, Darrian T90, Sapphire Cosworth 4x4, Subaru Legacy RS and Subaru Impreza WRC.

Here are some pictures of this years rally:
John Price with co-driver Caroline Price secured a record 10th win. You can see how determined they were - as they came round the corner the back wheel of the car was off the ground
Second place in the rally went to John Stone in another 6R4.
Chris Davis finished third, no he wasn't driving a 6r4, he was driving a Darrian T90.
Amazingly this 6R4 driven by Phil Gallagher has a 2.8 litre engine
This year Mike Oates and Lisa Addy didn't win the race, despite Mike being in the winning car on 3 previous occasions - twice driving and once as co-driver to John Price.
In the UK many people learn to drive in Nissan Micra. The Micra driven by Matthew Speed had been seriously modified... to have a 2 litre engine
John Stant and Pete Murray had a shorter than anticipated rally. Shortly after this picture was taken they suffered mechanical difficulties and had to retire from the rally.
