People - Kings - David - Reigning
Introduction
The people accept David as King of Judah and then Israel.
David hears of Saul's death. He laments the death of Saul and Jonathan. (II Samuel chapter 1)
The tribe of Judah anoint David King. War between the houses of David and Saul. (II Samuel chapter 2)
David becomes King over Isreal. (II Samuel chapter 5)
'You shall shepherd my people Israel, and you shall become their ruler.' (II Samuel chapter 5 v 2)
David brings the ark of God to Jerusalem. (II Samuel chapter 6)
God makes a promise to David. (II Samuel chapter 7)
When your days are over and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, who will come from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom. (II Samuel chapter 7 v12)
Your house and your kingdom shall endure for ever before me; your throne shall be established for ever.' (II Samuel chapter 7 v16)
This is clearly saying that a son of David will succeed him. It also hinting that the Messiah will be descended from David.
David and Bathsheba. (II Samuel chapter 11)
Nathan rebukes David. David admits he sinned by sleeping with Bathsheba and having her husband Uriah killed. The birth of Solomon. (I Samuel chapter 12)
Absalom (David's son) rebells and David Flees. (II Samuel chapter 15)
Absalom Killed. (II Samuel chapter 18)
David counts the fighting men. (II Samuel chapter 24)
Adonijah, David's son (next oldest to Absalom) tried to make himself king. David makes Solomon King. (I Kings Chapter 1)
The death of David. Solomon's throne is established. (I Kings chapter 2)
