People - Kings - Solomon
Third King of Israel, reigned for forty years.
Introduction
Solomon is famous for his riches and his wisdom.
Birth of Solomon, son of King David and Bathsheba. (II Samuel chapter 12)
David makes his son Solomon king. (I Kings chapter 1)
Solomon's throne established. (I Kings chapter 2)
God's promise to Solomon. (I Kings chapter 2)
12 "...I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be.
13 Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for - both riches and honour - so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings."
Solomon builds the temple. (I Kings chapter 6)
The ark brought into the temple. (I Kings chapter 8)
The Queen of Sheba visits Solomon. (I Kings chapter 10)
Solomon has numerous wives (700) and many concubines (300) and as he grew old they turned his heart and he was no longer fully devoted to God. Jeroboam Rebels and Solomon's death. (I Kings chapter 11)
Prophecy by Ahijah the prophet after tearing Jeroboam's cloak into twelve pieces:
31 Then he said to Jeroboam, "Take ten pieces for yourself, for this is what the Lord, the God of Israel says: 'See, I am going to tear the kingdom out of Solomon's hand and give you ten tribes.
32 But for the sake of my servant David and the city of Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, he will have one tribe.'
Conclusion
Solomon started well, but as he grew rich he collected numerous wives and he followed false gods.
