People - Noah
The beginning of Genesis tells of the creation. Noah was a descendent of Adam via his son Seth. (Genesis 5 v1 - 32)
Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God. (Genesis 6 v 9)
Noah was the father of:
Shem
Ham
Japheth
Genesis 6 v 11 - 12
Now the earth was corrupt in God's sight and was full of violence. (v11)
God saw how corrupt the earth had become for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. (v12)
God told Noah about the coming flood and told Noah to build an ark out of cypress. Noah built the ark. God told Noah to take his family with the animals into the ark. The flood came and everyone who wasn't in the ark drowned.
When the flood receded Noah, his family and the animals came out of the ark.
Genesis 9 v 8 - 13
Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him: (v8)
"I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you (v9)
and with every living creature that was with you - the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you - every living creature on earth. (v10)
I establish my convenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth." (v11)
And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: (v12)
I have set the rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. (v13)
