Questions
Introduction
People often have questions about Christianity. I will try and explain some of the more common questions.
What is original sin?
In the beginning Adam and Eve lived in the garden of Eden. God told them -
Genesis chapter 2
v16 You are free to eat from any tree in the garden;
v17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."
Adam and Eve ate of the tree rebelling against Gods command.
What is Christianity?
Christianity is all about having a relationship with a living God (Father, Son and Spirit).
Isn't Christianity just a set of irrelevant rules?
God wants what is best for us. He cares for everyone, in John's gospel it says
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3 verse 16).
When Jesus was asked, "what is the greatest commandment?"
Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the Second is like it: 'Love your neighbour as yourself.' (Matthew chapter 22 verses 37 - 39)
Christianity is not about rules, it is the good news - we can meet the real God and then have eternal life.
Can I work my way to heaven?
Often people believe they can get to heaven by doing good works. In the old testament people had to leave their offerings at the altar to have their sins forgiven.
