Journal - May 2003
Saturday - 31st May
I did some more work on my patio. Six rows of paving stones are now done, just two rows to go.
In the Practise session before the Monaco Grand Prix Jenson Button crashed his F1 BAR car into a tyre wall while doing about 180mph. He was taken to hospital as precaution. Will he race in tomorrows Grand Prix?
Friday - 30th May
On the way home I purchased some more cement, so hopefully I can make good progress with my patio.
Thursday - 29th May
A liner visited the River Mersey today. The tourists were fortunate as the weather today was really good. After taking a few pictures of the liner I went for a workout at the gym.
On a sader note, one of the motorcyclists was killed today practicing for the TT week races which take place next week in the Isle of Mann.
Wednesday - 28th May
HMS Ocean, the largest British warship returned from the Gulf.
Tuesday - 27th May
I posted off my most recent photographs including the battle of the atlantic celebrations
It was surprisingly hot in the gym. Today I spent more time resting between exercises than usual.
Monday - 26th May
I moved some paving stones before going on a walk with some friends from church. The weather forecast was a bright start followed by sunshine and showers. Fortunately we missed the showers bit. In the middle of the walk I saw a tandem going past - it was my parents!
As my back garden is suitably dry I cut the grass. Afterwards I looked in the mirror and had quite a surprise... I seem to have a red forehead and a red nose.
Sunday - 25th May
After church despite the weather forecast I was able to cement my fifth row of paving stones together. I cut the grass in my front lawn, it took quite a while as I haven't cut it regularly this year.
I spotted several newts in my pond, I went for my camera. When returned only one sleepy looking newt was visible. I am beginning to think newts are camera shy.
Saturday - 24th May
When I was packing my weeks food into my car I noticed something unusual happen. I large red lorry arrived at the supermarket and it had blue lights on its roof, yes it was a fire engine. I guess it was a safety check as they didn't have their siren or blue lights on.
Later in the day I positioned another row of paving stones. I had to keep an eye on the time as I was going to my parents for tea. One of their neighbours was coming to celebrate her 93rd birthday!
Friday - 23rd May
I had booked a day off work and it didn't rain. I did a small amount of work on my patio.
Thursday - 22nd May
I left work earlier than usual as I wanted to workout at the gym and later in the evening go round to see some friends from church.
Wednesday - 21st May
Musicians. We changed our stage setup, to use overhead microphones.
Tuesday - 20th May
After work I did a workout at the gym.
Monday - 19th May
After all the weekends activities I didn't feel like going to the gym after work.
Sunday - 18th May
Despite going to church and watching the Austrian grand prix I managed to get some digging done in my garden.
Saturday - 17th May
Every weekend I try to work on the patio it seems to rain. At least I haven't had as much rain as Noah.
Friday - 16th May
I received a post card from my parents saying they were enjoying their holiday in Malta.
One of my brothers started a new job - hurrah.
The British aircraft carrier Ark Royal returned from the Gulf.
Thursday - 15th May
Wednesday - 14th May
Musicians rehersal. Lots of extra people came to sing in the choir.
Tuesday - 13th May
Statistician came up with some interesting figures, apparently if the cost of fighter aircraft keeps increasing by the year 2050 the US will only be able to afford 1 fighter! With this in mind the joint strike fighter project took place between British and American firms to develop a general purpose cheap fighter which can be adapted for a variety of roles, e.g., to have vertical take off for the British Navy.
Monday - 12th May
Sunday - 11th May
It rained again, so I didn't do any more work on my patio. Instead I updated my homepage and then played a computer game called Sim City 4. My parents visited me later in the afternoon to tell me about their holiday in Malta.
Saturday - 10th May
My second set of photographs of the battle of the atlantic celebrations had arrived.
I did some more work on my patio. The picture below shows me about to lay some paving stones.
Friday - 9th May
Despite the weather forecast there was heavy rain early in the evening... I noticed as I got soaked walking to my car after work.
Thursday - 8th May
We had a social evening at homegroup so we had things to eat and I showed everyone my photographs.
Wednesday - 7th May
When I arrived home I discovered my first set of photographs of the battle of the atlantic celebrations had arrived.
Tuesday - 6th May
Back to work. I quite enjoyed having a three day weekend.
At lunch time I saw the warships leaving the docks on both sides of the River Mersey.
Monday - 5th May (Bank Holiday)
Normally on bank holidays I stay at home to avoid the traffic. This time I briefly ventured out to deliver the advanced motorist magazines.
Sunday - 4th May
The weather was a little better so managed to cut the grass before it rained in the afternoon.
In the evening I watched the Spanish Grand Prix. The Renault cars were surprisingly competitive with the new Ferrari. I suspect there will be lots of people scratching their heads trying to understand how Alonso (Renault) managed to split the Ferraris. Michael won the race and Rubbens was 3rd. Mclaren had a disasterous race, with neither of their cars finishing. Jordan's Ralph Firman came 8th getting his first Formula 1 point.
Saturday - 3rd May
On the way to the supermarket I posted off another roll of film.
In the afternoon I went with one of my brothers to view some of the warships berthed in Wallasey Docks. Despite the weather it was worth the visit.
Friday - 2nd May
Someone from work with a digital camera gave me a copy of some of the pictures they had taken.

I will have to be careful or else I may find myself rushing to the shops and purchasing a digital camera.
Thursday - 1st May
Some of the ships taking part in the battle of the atlantic celebrations arrived at the Albert Dock.

In the evening I voted on the way to the church home group.
