Saturday 31st
Some people from church went on a walk. I didn't join them as I had several things to do around the house. The weather wasn't very kind to the intrepid walkers the wind was gusting and they had several rain showers.

Friday 30th

Thursday 29th

Wednesday 28th
Where is the snow? Manchester airport was closed to allow snow ploughs to clear the runway. Some snow did fall in the afternoon, but it melted almost immediately.
In the evening I did a quick workout at the gym. After eating my evening meal I went to the musicians rehersal.

Tuesday 27th
I went to the monthly advanced motorist meeting with my parents. It was about transport around the area. We saw several films. One was about trams on the Wirral. Another film was about steam powered narrow gauge railways in North Wales which were recently extended... I think they have twelve miles to go to join up the two railways.

Monday 26th
I had a few unusual conversations at the gym. Instead of the usual discussions about calories, exercise repetitions, and muscle groups we talked about quarks, electrons and of course H3.
I finally fitted a replacement air filter to my car. I don't think I have ever seen one as black as the one I took out. I was covered in black dust, even my tool kit was filthy. Next time I plan to do this job in daylight.
The weather forecast predicts snow/sleet tonight so it will be interesting to look outside tomorrow morning and see if they are right.

Sunday 25th
In afternoon I drained the radiator from my car, then refilled it with about 25% anti-freeze. Cold weather is expected on Tuesday and I didn't want to have to replace an expensive radiator.

Saturday 24th
I looked up the dates for the 2004 formula one races. There are a couple of new races - China and Bahrain. I was quite surprised to see that the last race isn't in Japan, this year it will be in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
In evening I went to a relations house for tea. It was nice not to have to cook a meal and then wash up afterwards.

Friday 23rd
I had a day off work. In the morning I went to the opticians in Birkenhead. While I was at the shops I purchased a few CDS.

Thursday 22nd

Wednesday 21st

Tuesday 20th
Yesterday several people were rescued from the capsized freighter Rocknes but unfortunately several people are still missing.

Monday 19th
The Antiguan registered freighter MS Rocknes carrying stone and gravel capsized near Bergen, Norway :-(

Sunday 18th
We moved the PA equipment back into the main hall in time for the morning meeting at church.

Saturday 17th
I purchased a new sound card. I restrained myself from buying the most expensive setup. Using my existing speakers the sound seems "warmer".
While shopping I saw Ulysees. Who is Ulysees I hear you ask? It is the worlds biggest car ferry weighing about 51,000 tons which is about 1/3 the weight of the Queen Mary II. It is currently in the dry dock at a local ship yard for maintenance. It towers over all the seacats in the shipyard.
I did some early spring cleaning in one of the alcoves off my dining room. I think it was overdue as I found my missing croquet set!

Friday 16th
After upgrading my PC to XP, the sound card hasn't worked properly. I have been unable to get the correct drivers for it so I plan to replace it with something newer.
It is really cold in Boston where my brother lives. He sent this picture... note how the waves have frozen on the beach!

Thursday 15th
Yesterday I definately overdid things at the gym... too much bicept work.

Wednesday 14th
No musicians at church as the building work is on-going.

Tuesday 13th

Monday 12th
After work I went to the gym, cooked my tea (no it wasn't a microwave meal) ironed some shirts and checked my email. Before I knew what was happening it was 11pm and I felt tired.

Sunday 11th
There were storm force gales to the south of the UK. A tornado even appeared in the Bristol Channel. Fortunately there wasn't any shipping in the area.

Saturday 10th
I went to the church building to move the PA equipment. The main hall had dry rot!
I started upgrading my PC to use windows XP.

Friday 9th
Still no news from the Beagle lander on Mars. At least the NASA lander managed to sucessfully arrive. This is one of the images it sent back.

Thursday 8th
The Queen Mary 2 the worlds biggest cruise liner (approx 150,000 tons) arrived at Southampton for her maiden voyage. Look how small the tugs look.

Wednesday 7th
The Williams Formula 1 team unveiled their new car for the 2004 racing season. At work there were quite a few conversations about the unusual shape of the nose of the car. Traditionally the nose is shaped like a giant door wedge, but the williams nose is not solid

Tuesday 6th
I was at my desk at work before 8am, giving me two and a half hours to complete the work and send the programs on-site. Just after 9am someone reminded me, that the presentation was at 10.30am European time, not British time, so I had less than half an hour left! Someone transferred the programs on-site and the presentation went OK.

Monday 5th
I was back in work. I planned to have a short relaxing day. I was given a stack of changes to make to a screen. That didn't worry me at all, then I discovered a slight time contraint. One of the trainers was flying to a client site to demonstrate the software on Tuesday morning (yes tomorrow). I didn't leave work early!

Sunday 4th
I did some tidying of my house and before I really got started my wheelie bin was full.
Later in the afternoon my parents visited me and we finished off the Christmas cake.

Saturday 3rd
I managed to do my food shopping in the morning. I seemed to spend most of the day half asleep - I must have overdone it at the gym yesterday.

Friday 2nd
Airlines have been in the news again. Several flights involving the Middle East or North America have been cancelled due to terrorist threats.
After a workout at the gym I decided to cook a curry for my evening meal. It was a bit spicier than I planned. I had the traditional symptoms of a hot curry - a numb mouth and a tingling nose.

Thursday 1st - New Year's Day
When I woke up I didn't recognise the ceiling! It took a few seconds to remember where I was... I was in the small bedroom at my parents house. I had stayed overnight for the new years party.
