Journal - February 2004
Sunday 29th
I delivered the advanced motorists magazines to the people who lived near me. Slightly embarassingly I had took two attempts at reverse parking at one of the houses and then discovered they had been watching me. Still it could have been much worse - I could have slipped over on an icy puddle while people were watching!
Saturday 28th
Almost all the snow has gone, which was just as well as I went on a walk with some friends.
In the afternoon my Dad came round and fixed a faulty socket.
Friday 27th
When I looked out of the window in the morning I was expecting lots of snow, but most of the snow had melted, which was disappointing.
Thursday 26th
Late on Thursday evening I found myself driving down a country lane with hardly any fuel in my car having trouble seeing where I was going because of the snow.
Wednesday 25th
In the evening I turned my car round in the church car park. Instead of just driving in a gentle circle, this time I hit a patch of ice concealed under the snow and it made things interesting.
Tuesday 24th
I had tea at my parents then we went to the advanced motorists meeting. On the way to the advanced motorists meeting all the traffic lights seemed to turn red on me and I arrived several minutes after my parents.
Monday 23rd
I stayed later at work than usual, as the gym was only openning at 6pm in the evening. By the time I arrived home at about 8pm I was looking forward to my evening meal.
Sunday 22nd
Saturday 21st
We went out for an indian meal to celebrate my Mum's birthday. We had the meal on Saturday as this is the most convenient day, although tomorrow is the actual birthday.
Friday 20th
I managed to beat my record number of bench presses using a 100 pound bar, I managed 53... my poor arms!
Thursday 19th
I heard that a new series of Battlestar Galactica is being filmed after the new pilot was sucessful.
Wednesday 18th
Musicians was cancelled which was handy because I was running late and I barely had enough time to cook and eat my evening meal.
Tuesday 17th
I saw that SuperSeaCat II has come out of ship yard where it normally spends the winter getting serviced.
Monday 16th
When I looked out in the morning I noticed my car glistening in the street light and the grass was white and sparkling. Winter apparently hasn't finished. By lunchtime it was much warmer and I even saw someone selling ice creams.
Sunday 15th
Saturday 14th
Friday 13th
Thursday 12th
On the way home my clutch decided to be difficult... I started reversing and even with my clutch pedal on the floor my car wasn't slowing down... I had to use the brake to stop. After switching off the engine and pumping the pedal everything seemed to work normally so I drove home without any further incident.
Wednesday 11th
I managed to squeeze in a visit to the gym before going to the musicians rehersal.
Tuesday 10th
When I drove into work I noticed that the mast on top of Beatham Tower, one of the tallest buildings in Liverpool had been damaged by the wind. When I drove home in evening the mast was a lot shorter so it had either broken off or been removed.
Monday 9th
I took my car to the garage, but they couldn't find anything wrong with my car... the saga continues.
Sunday 8th
I did some tidying of my garden. The gale force winds we had last night as well as making it difficult to sleep caused a couple of the windows in my greenhouse to break.
Later in the afternoon my parents came round to visit.
Saturday 7th
In the morning I sorted out my shopping. I remembered to pick up some extras as we are having a meal at the church building on Sunday and everyone is bringing something to eat.
Friday 6th
I arranged for my car's clutch to be inspected next week.
HMS Ramsey, a type 23 frigate (simila to the picture) visited Liverpool.
Thursday 5th
I spoke to someone I haven't seen in years today. Last time I saw his son he was trying crawling around and now he is six.
Spring seems to have arrived early. I noticed the daffodils are starting to appear in my garden and I saw some jet skis on the River Mersey.
On the way home from work I had more trouble with my clutch. I am definately going to get something done about the situation. I still managed to arrive home in daylight so I replaced my car's driver side headlight.
Wednesday 4th
When I arrived at the gym I had quite a surprise. I was reversing into a parking space and I put my foot to the floor on the clutch pedal but my car was still heading for the building! I managed to switch the ignition off before I hit the wall.
At musicians we started rehersing for Easter Sunday. On the way home I noticed it seemed to be darker than usual. I checked my headlights and discovered that the drivers side wasn't working.
Tuesday 3rd
Cars! When I left work I spotted someone I knew at the car park, they were swapping wheels as there car had a flat tyre. I checked they had everything under control then went home.
A bit later I had my own mini drama. The traffic stopped so I stopped and put the hand brake on. When I tried to take my car out of gear and put it in neutral I found the gear lever was stuck in position, my cars clutch had stuck again. I knew that if I lifted my foot off the clutch pedal my car would drive forward into the car in front! so I switched off the engine, pulled the clutch pedal up to pressurise the hydrolics. After I had pumped the pedal a few times everything was OK and I restarted my car before the lights went green, so I doubt anyone else noticed. Below is a picture of my car safely parked at home.
