Journal - July 2005
Sunday 31th
In the afternoon I went to a barbecue to celebrate an aunt's birthday.
Tomorrow I go back into the office and find out what is happening. Am I at risk? Are any of the people I know at risk?
Saturday 30th
Friday 29th
I found out that "at risk" letters are being given out at work.
Thursday 28th
It seems there are going to be redundancies at work.
Wednesday 27th
Despite being on holiday I heard that things were not going well at work, a major client has pulled out of a project.
Tuesday 26th
My parents sent an email saying they coming homing soon, they have been visiting my brother and his wife in Boston.
Monday 25th
The first day of a weeks holiday.
Sunday 24th
I was pleased to discover that I had put the PA system back together after last night's concert.
Saturday 23rd
My brother came with me to New Brighton promenade to see the rally cars.

In the evening there was a concert at church. I was pleased to see the chap who had an accident with a chainsaw earlier in the week was well enough to come.
Friday 22nd
The police shoot a man on the London underground.
Thursday 21st
More attempted bombings in London. Fortunately, only the detonators went off so nobody was injured. I hope the police catch the people responsible.
Wednesday 20th
On the way to work via the Royal Daffodil I saw that Lagan Viking had arrived ready for her first commercial voyage to Belfast.

At the gym I heard that someone I know had an accident involving their hand and a chainsaw. They had spent some time in hospital and have been sent home to recover.
Tuesday 19th
On the way home from work it was raining so I decided to travel inside on the upper deck of the ferry Royal Daffodil.
Monday 18th
I was quite shocked in the morning... it rained and I didn't bring a coat to work. By lunchtime the rain had stopped.
The new ro-ro ship Lagan Viking arrived at Twelve Quays for a trial berthing.
Sunday 17th
I cut the grass and this time it didn't take long as it has been so dry since last weekend. I even put some more water in the pond as it was looking a little dry.
Saturday 16th
Friday 15th
Thursday 14th
The cruise liner Crystal Symphony arrived in the River Mersey and the Mersey Ferry - Royal Iris transferred the passengers to Liverpool. In the background is a ro-ro ferry (probably Mersey Viking) that takes freight to Ireland.
Wednesday 13th
I had the day of work to go to an uncle's funeral.
Tuesday 12th
On the way home I saw the Hebridean Princess preparing for a trip up the Manchester Ship Canal to Salford Quays.
Monday 11th
It was amazingly hot in the office and on the way home I didn't see any paramedics treating anyone at the Liverpool Pierhead ferry terminal. I managed a quick workout at the gym despite the heat. While my evening meal was cooking I cut the grass on the front lawn.
Sunday 10th
I cut the grass in the back garden. I got so hot I decided to leave the front garden for another day.
Saturday 9th
I read the newspaper and heard report after report about the terrorists exploding bombs on three trains and one bus. I couldn't read the whole paper so I went outside and did some gardening which was much more relaxing than hearing about the incidents in London.
Friday 8th
On the way home the police and the paramedics were at the Liverpool pierhead ferry terminal again. The paramedics escorted a chap wrapped in a towel to their ambulence, so I guess someone else has ended up in the river.
Thursday 7th
It was a crazy day at work. I came out of a meeting at lunchtime and there was an email from one of my brothers telling me some bombs had gone off in London. People at work were shocked. It was like 9/11 all over again.
On the way home it was crazy on the ferries. The police were there and the paramedics, someone had tipped their wife's ashes into the river then jumped off the ferry - Royal Daffodil. They were pulled out of the river and the paramedics were treating them but things weren't looking good. To make matters more confusing the replacement ferry Snowdrop developed engine problems.
Wednesday 6th
Tuesday 5th
My parents flew to Boston to visit one of the my brothers and his wife.
Monday 4th
Sunday 3rd
After church we had a barbecue at a local country park. Despite the overcast sky we saw several people making use of the thermals off the nearby cliff.

Later in the evening I heard that a relative had been taken into hospital after they had suffered a major stroke.
Saturday 2nd
I didn't get much DIY done today as I spent much of the day watching Live8. I hadn't realised how bad the situation was in Africa. 50,000 people dying each day is scandalous.
Friday 1st
How did it get to be July? It doesn't seem long since Spring. Last year I took down the green house and started laying some paving and I still haven't finished it!
