Journal - December 2005
Saturday 31st
New Year's Eve
I heard from someone who has been on holiday in Australia and New Zealand. Apparently there is a Birkenhead near Sydney.
I celebrated the new year at my parents house.
Friday 30th
When I looked out in the morning I was disappointed to see that the snow had all gone.
My parents came for tea. I was a bit behind schedule due to the decorating so I had to put the curtains back up, put the smoke alarm back on the ceiling, plug the florescent tube back in its fitting, and move the dining room furnature before I could start cleaning the house or cooking the meal. I got all the furnature in place and had just started cooking when they arrived.
Thursday 29th
It snowed in the evening.
Wednesday 28th
I went to the dentist to get a filling that had fallen out replaced. On the way home I noticed there was still lots of ice on the smaller roads. I saw that a taxi had left the road and gone through a hedge into the park where we went walking a few days ago - oops.
Later in the day I went to the gym.
Tuesday 27th
I returned home and put a couple of coats of paint on the dining room ceiling.
I heard that the Glasgow Clipper has a new skipper.
Monday 26th
In the afternoon we went on a walk to burn off some of the calories we have eaten. These steps in a local park were part of the walk.
Sunday 25th
I went to church to celebrate Christmas.
Saturday 24th
I wrapped up some presents then drove in the fog to my parents. We stayed up late and swapped presents at about 1am.
Friday 23rd
I put a coat of emulsion paint over the whole ceiling without getting much paint on myself.
Thursday 22nd
I started painting the dining room ceiling now that I have plastered up all the holes. No this is not the finished article, I hope to have things finished by Christmas.
Wednesday 21st
I heard that the clippers have all completed the fourth race (Durban to Fremantle).
Tuesday 20th
I had an eye test and purchased a new pair of glasses.
In the evening I setup a nativity scene on top of the tv.
Monday 19th
I went shopping for Christmas presents. It was more difficult than usual to park near the shops. I found a space and managed to squeeze my car into it. The space wasn't too tight as I didn't need to fold the wing mirrors in.
Sunday 18th
This year the church Christmas presentation was called Carols by Candle Light.
Dublin Viking ran aground while travelling to Dublin. Fortunately the ship didn't seem to be damaged, so she returned to Twelve Quays to transfer her cargo to Brave Merchant and then proceeded to Langton Dock for a divers inspection.
Saturday 17th
We had a musicians social at someone's house. I must have been enjoying myself as I didn't realise how late it was until I came to leave just after mid-night.
Friday 16th
Contrary to any rumours that is a tv aerial and I am not a soviet spy.
Thursday 15th
Wednesday 14th
The Irish Sea should start getting back to normal now that one of the ferry companies is no longer on strike. Many of the other shipping companies had to put on additional ships to handle the freight.
I now have a new tv aerial on top of a large pole. The picture on my TV is so much better than before.
I saw the new Mersey Viking which has 5 vehicle decks at Twelve Quays.
Tuesday 13th
I woke at the usual time as I had left my alarm at my usual working time. As I felt tired I turned the alarm off and relaxed for a few minutes. I must have fallen asleep because a strange scraping noise noise woke me up. I can't have nodded off for too long as light wasn't coming through the curtains. My curiousity got the better of me so I peered round the curtains. The mystery was solved, I could see what was causing the strange noise. I decided since I was up it must be time for breakfast. Oh, you want to know what was causing the noise? It was one of my neigbours scraping the ice off their company van.
Monday 12th
I woke at the usual time, but since my contract has finished I didn't have to go to work. I decided to take things easy so I spent most of the day playing a computer game called Civilization 4. In the evening I went to the gym and the church prayer meeting.
Sunday 11th
After the church meeting some of the children were practising for the Christmas nativity presentation.
While I was looking round my garden with my parents I spotted something rather gross. There were some feathers stuck to a piece of bone. I guess one of the local cats had a snack.
Saturday 10th
It's behind you. Well it is panto season, so I couldn't resist the temptation. The picture taken from the Jersey clipper with a large wave behind. Notice that everyone is dressed in water proof gear and wearing life jackets. Remember what happened last month?
Friday 9th
I completed all my work, my timesheet and any outstanding paperwork and got everything signed off. At lunch time I purchased two new pairs of trousers. That is the trouble with office jobs, sitting down all day wears out trousers. In the evening I attempted to purchase a pda based gps system. Unfortunately the model I chose was out of stock so I will have to try again later.
Thursday 8th
I woke feeling rather tired. Maybe it was something I did yesterday? It is the penultimate day for my current contract.
I met with former colleagues for a pub lunch.
wednesday 7th
One of the ferry companies that sails to Ireland is still on strike, so there is more traffic going to Twelve Quays and they have put on an extra boat to handle the extra freight. On the way to work I cut things too fine, especially with the extra traffic and managed to miss the 8.05 ferry.
After the gym I visited someone I know from church. I had tea with them and then helped setup their new computer. I arrived home 5 minutes before midnight.
Tuesday 6th
I watched the last two episodes of B5 series 5. I won't say what happened just in case anyone reading this hasn't seen the episodes.
Monday 5th
My last week at work.
Sunday 4th
In the evening one of my aunts invited our family around for nibbles.
Saturday 3rd
Friday 2nd
Quite a few of the contractors weren't in the office today. There was a Christmas party where there was lots of free drink last night (I didn't go as I had something else planned). Someone sitting near me came in the morning, but went home in the afternoon because they felt ill.
Thursday 1st
Wednesday 2nd
Tuesday 1st
I was told by the agency that when my current contract runs out in December it won't be getting re-newed. I guess it is time for me to start looking for another job.
