Tuesday 28th
It snowed. I went to the advanced motorist meeting despite the weather.

Monday 27th
I went on a walk around Eastham with a friend and we saw several ships travelling to and from Queen Elizabeth II Docks.
Later in the day I went to the gym and then a leaders meetings.

Sunday 26th
I helped a friend move a frige freezer and a small filing cabinet.

Saturday 25th
In the evening I went out for an Italian meal to celebrate my Mum's birthday.

Friday 24th
There was an attempted coup in the Philippine Islands and the president Gloria Macapagal declared a state of emergency. This may slow down the repairs to the clippers in Subic Bay.
I did the PA for a youth meeting at the church building. Someone started doing a Karaoke using using the same frequency as one of our radio microphones (I suspect the pub across the road). I asked the speaker to swap to the other radio mike - problem solved.

Thursday 23rd
It rained, obviously I shouldn't have mentioned the lack of rain on Monday. I went on a walk with someone from church. We both got a bit muddy but was OK as I was properly dressed for the ocassion and this time I remembered my gloves.
Things still seem quite unpleasant in Iraq with Sunni and Shite mosques being targetted since the destruction of the al-Askari shrine.

Wednesday 22nd
I tacked down the underfelt on the sides of my garden shed.

Tuesday 21st

Monday 20th
I saw that there were some frogs in my pond. I removed some of the dead leaves and other debris to give them more room. This winter has been quite dry, normally the pond is full at this time of the year, if we don't get some rain soon I may have to top the pond up.

Sunday 19th

Saturday 18th
I didn't have to do much cooking today. I went to church for breakfast and in the evening I went for tea at my parents. In the afternoon I did some (food) shopping and saw the ship Merchant Bravery and the steam tug Kerne making there way through the lock gates into Wallasey/Birkenhead Docks.

Friday 17th
The Stena Explorer (HSS) hit an underwater object in Holyhead harbour putting a 5m gash in one of her hulls.

Thursday 16th
I went to the job centre to sign on. Hopefully I won't have to do this very often.
I took lots of rotten wood - the old roof from my shed, to the local tip in West Kirby. While moving the wood I located my missing hammer.

Wednesday 15th
I went walking with some friends up Moel Famau, the highest peak (554 metres)in the Clwydian range of hills. We parked in the top car park and took the Offas's Dyke path which is quite exposed to the weather. It was blustery with a few showers so I quickly put on my waterproofs. Next time I will have remember to bring gloves with me. I stood on the Jubilee monument at the summit and took a picture showing the route we had taken.

Tuesday 14th
I went to a wedding, yes on Valentines day.

Monday 13th
I did some more tidying around my office. I ordered a wardrope and a chest of drawers. While I was at the shop I unexpectedly met my parents who were purchasing a new bed.

Sunday 12th
I watched an interesting tv programme about the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal that was sunk in the second world war. The carrier had been launched by a local shipyard and finally sank in the Mediterranean Sea near Gibralta after it was torpedoed by a "U" boat.

Saturday 11th
I did my weekly shopping which wasn't very exciting, but quite important as I only had enough milk left for a few coffees.

Friday 10th
There were 3 guys all called Steve at the gym today.

Thursday 9th
My new flat screen arrived.

Wednesday 8th
I ordered a 19" flat screen to replace my old 17" computer monitor. Later in the day I went to the gym and musicians.

Tuesday 7th
I went on a walk with a guy from church. Shortly after I returned home the sky went very dark followed by some rain. I am glad the rain didn't happen when I was walking.

Monday 6th Feb

Sunday 5th
I found myself slipping into the suburbon stereotype... I washed my car in the afternoon.
I heard that race 6 of the clipper round the world yacht race had been abandoned. Several of the clippers reported loose keel bolts and fleet was diverted to Subic Bay in the Philipines.

Saturday 4th
I went to the youth breakfast to setup the PA system.
HMS Bulwark, a Landing Platform Dock (LPD) ship was diverted towards the Red Sea to assist, but her help was not required by the Egyptians who already had ships and helicopters in the area. HMS Bulwark is an Albion class ship. I took this picture of her sister ship in 2003 at the end of the clippers 2002-2003 race in Liverpool.

In the evening I went to my brothers house in Warrington for tea. I was later arriving than I expected as I had trouble using my sat-nav system.

Friday 3rd
HMS Southampton, a type 42 destroyer launched in 1979 and RFA (Royal Fleet Auxilliary) Grey Rover seized three and a half tons of cocaine worth about £350 million. Their boarding teams came aboard MV Rampage in the Carribean to make the find. When Grey Rover returns to the UK later this month it is scheduled to be decommisioned. I don't imagine the drug smugglers will be happy to hear about the new type 45 destroyers.
The Egyptian ferry Al Salam Boccacio 98 sank in the Red Sea with 1300 on board.

Thursday 2nd
I gave out the advanced motorist magazines then I took the train to give blood and meet some former colleagues in Liverpool. While I was there I spotted that Canning Dock had been drained while work is done on the lock gates.

Wednesday 1st
The french divers inspected the
Ece the damaged tanker and discovered a 5m hole below the water line. The damaged tanker Ece sank around mid-night (last night) with its cargo of 10,000 tonnes of phosphoric acid.
HMS Daring the first type 45 destroyer was launched in Glasgow. When it is operational (2009) it will have more fire power than the entire fleet of type 42 destroyers (eight ships). The type 45 has improved radar systems and it carries both short and long range missiles. In common with most Royal Navy ships it also has a helicopter flight deck designed to carry either a lynx or merlin combat helicopter.
