Journal - March 2006
Friday 31st
I delivered the advanced motorist magazine. I had to pay attention as they had been a few changes to my delivery round.
I went to the Devoted conference in Bradford for musicians. I managed to pack everything for the weekend before my lift arrived so I cut the grass in my front lawn for the first time this year.
Thursday 30th
I saw something quite rare. I visited a place known as Parkgate which in the past used to be used as a port. Ships can no longer visit Parkgate as the River Dee has silted up and marshland is now the home of birds and small mammals such as water voles. Oh, you want to know what I saw? I saw the tide come in which only happens a few times each year and this time it was helped by a strong wind. There were lots of people there to see the wildlife, lots of people came equipped with bonoculars, camera's etc.
Wednesday 29th
Musicians - was a bit different as we had a bass player who is pastor of another local church. We were preparing for the Sunday evening meeting.
Tuesday 28th
I put the ladder against the poplar tree at the end of my garden, tied the ladder to the tree and climbed up. During the winter one of the branches had snapped and I didn't want it to fall on me or one of the neighbours. When I climbed up I discovered it was higher than I expected and the branch was tangled up in several other branches. After lots of sawing I got the branch down. I was about to climb down when I spotted several dead branches. The wind was starting to get gusty so I just removed the easiest ones. Half way to the local tip I started wondering if it would be open due to the council workers strike. Fortunately it was so I got rid of the branches from the tree and some broken paving stones.
Monday 27th
I seem to be winning the battle against the ants in my kitchen.
It was announched that the skipper of the Jersey Clipper will resign when they arrive at Qingdao.
I heard that the Black Prince was in Langton Dock and was scheduled to leave at 5pm. I drove to New Brighton to get a few pictures.
Sunday 26th
The clocks went forward so I had slightly less sleep than normal.
I watched the Rally of Catalunya. Sebastien Loeb won in his citroen. The celebrations were muted because Jorg Bastuck a co-driver died after being hit by another car while changing a wheel in the Junior World Rally Championship.
Saturday 25th
I went out for a Chinese meal to celebrate the birthdays of my Dad and David one of my brothers.
The clippers re-started the sixth race to Qingdao.
Friday 24th
I went to Gary's 40th Birthday Party at Our Lady's Parish Centre. Remember Showaddywaddy? Gary seemed to enjoy the party... that is him with the blue jacket and the red inflatable saxaphone.
Thursday 23rd
My parents came to see me. I showed them my new furnature.
I took some rubbish to the tip and afterwards I went to see the damage done to the bridge.
Wednesday 22nd
I heard that one of the bridges had been damaged in Birkenhead / Wallasey docks.
Tuesday 21st
All the clippers are back in the water now after having work done on their keels. Western Austalia the last clipper to be repaired was lowered into water today.
Monday 20th
Sunday 19th
I watched the Malaysian Grand Prix. The heat led to several fiery engine failures. Renault scored occupied the top two steps on the podium, this time Fisichella beat Alonso to the top step. Jenson Button came third.
The "Black Prince" visited Liverpool. I managed to get a few pictures of the Black Prince despite the poor light.
Saturday 18th
When I took my washing out of the machine I discovered where the "missing" battery from my old camera had gone.
Friday 17th
Qingdao was the the first of the clippers to be lowered back into the water after having the rectification work done on its keel.
Thursday 16th
I spotted this rather unusual scene so I had to take a picture.

I thought of few captions:
a) AA Man "Sorry sir, but I can't tow your cargo ship".
b) Always use the Green Cross Code (look left and right) before crossing a road so you won't get run over by a ship.
c) Well they did say with global warming the sea levels would rise!
Wednesday 15th
There was some difficult news for the crew of the Western Australia clipper.
Tuesday 14th
Monday 13th
Sunday 12th
I woke feeling a little better and when I looked outside I saw there was a fresh layer of snow on the ground. I also discovered that it was time to purchase a new camera... my old camera stopped working. I didn't feel well enough to drive through the snow to church and I didn't want to share the bug.
I watched the first grand prix in Bahrain. It was quite strange watching the cars roar around the desert track when outside the garden was buried in snow. This year most of the cars were running the v8 2.4 litre engines (last year the cars were running v10 3.0 litre engines). It was a close race, Alonso in a Renault came first closely followed by Michael Schumacher.
My Dad spotted a bargain camera for me so I now have a working digital camera again.
Saturday 11th
I didn't sleep very well as I had a stomach bug.
Friday 10th
Thursday 9th
In the morning I went for a walk from Thurstaston visitor centre to West Kirby and back. While we were walking around the marina the wind started to get up so we warmed up with a drink of coffee. Later in the afternoon I sawed some scrap wood into pieces and took it to the tip.
The ferries across the Mersey started running again.
Wednesday 8th
The F1 racing season is almost upon us, only a few days until racing starts in Bahrain.
Tuesday 7th
I had reason to visit Wigan. There were some quite unusual pay and display machines. I have seen machines where you pay in advance and other machines where you pay afterwards. This was a variation of the pay in advance type of machine. In this case you had to enter just the numbers on your car registration then put your money in and press the button for a ticket. I guess the reasoning for entering your registration is to prevent the ticket being used on another car.
Monday 6th
I did some shopping in Liverpool. I met a former colleague at a pub. I saw the rather sad looking Liverpool landing stage.
Sunday 5th
The last Star Trek Enterprise episode was shown on TV :-(
I suspect there may be some films in the future.
Saturday 4th
Friday 3rd
Thursday 2nd
I had a telephone interview.
Ferries couldn't berth at the Liverpool Landing Stage as one of the pontoons had partially sunk.
Wednesday 1st
I delivered the advanced motorist magazines. At the musicians rehersal there was a high pitched humming that was driving me mad. No I didn't have tinatous... There was a problem with the security system causing the noise which we discovered after rehersal.
