Journal - April 2006
Sunday 30th
Just before the meeting we finalised the stage layout making sure that there was enough room for the flute player. Someone from church arranged a walk next Wednesday up Snowdon via the Rangers Path.
Saturday 29th
We had a mens breakfast at the church building. Afterwards we put all the equipment back on the stage ready for Sunday.
Friday 28th
I read a weather report from Western Australia. It reminded me of camping in Wales in a tent we had been assured was waterproof.
Thursday 27th
I hired the last hand held radio microphone in a local shop and fortunately it was on a different frequency to the other microphones we have at church. In the evening we had a visiting speaker talking about Genesis and the theory of evolution. As there was a question and answer session at the end we want to have two portable hand held microphones available. The meeting went well, the car park was almost full and we put out extra chairs as we expected a large number of people. There were several reporters taking notes and pictures. I spoke to one who had travelled up from London for the Financial Times.
Wednesday 26th
At the end of musicians we cleared the keyboard, the guitars and microphones off the stage preparation for Thursdays meeting.
Tuesday 25th
I finished uploading pictures of Oulton Park.
Monday 24th
I got up early and watched the rest of the grand prix. Michael Schumacher despite having trouble with his tyres managed to win the race. Alonso came 2nd. Jenson Button only managed a couple of points due to pit stop problems. In the first pit stop one of the mechanics had trouble with a wheel nut. In the second stop his lollipop man signalled for him to go so he started driving. Unfortunately the fuel rig was still connected so the fuel rig was damaged and several mechanics knocked over. He then had to wait for the mechanics to remove the fuel rig nozzel that the still connected to the car.
I heard that the well known sports car manufacturer TVR is having financial difficulties. I guess that explains why TVR didn't enter any cars in the GT race at Oulton Park last week.
Sunday 23rd
I started watching the San Marino grand prix in the evening. Michael Schumacher broke another by starting the race in pole more times than anyone else in Formula 1. By midnight I was almost falling asleep so I switched off the TV and went to bed.
Saturday 22nd
I went to a conference with people from church in Bradford.
Friday 21st
I did the PA for the youth meeting at church. I recorded the meeting on CD but I couldn't copy the CD. Not sure why I will have to put my thinking cap on.
Thursday 20th
It was cold over night and the painting I did yesterday isn't quite dry... I found out when I left a finger print in the paint. While I was waiting for the paint to dry, no I didn't sit there watching it, I added the race 8 - GT Championship and the race 9 - Caterham Easter Trophy pictures to the web site.
Wednesday 19th
I update the web site with pictures from race 6 - F3 and race 7 - Formula Ford.
I did some painting in the afternoon on the woodwork on the side porch.
In the evening I connected up a second pair of speakers to the church PA system to help removed "dead spots" in the room.
Tuesday 18th
I started sorting out my photographs.
Monday 17th
GT racing at Oulton Park, pictures coming soon.
Sunday 16th - Easter Sunday
I had made up some more speaker cables for a second pair of speakers. When I arrived at church it was bit embassing... I couldn't find the speakers. How could I lose a pair of speakers? After the morning service I found the speakers in an alcove behind a large portable gas heater.
I went to a relations for tea to celebrate Easter Sunday
There was some drama on the Qingdao clipper.
Saturday 15th
I did some more painting.
Friday 14th - Good Friday
In the UK this is a day off work to remember Jesus dying on the cross so that our sins can be forgiven.
I started painting primer on the wood work.
Thursday 13th
I did some wood work for my side porch. I had to pay attention to the time as it is the day that I signed on at the job centre.
Wednesday 12th
I made up two new speaker cables for church to convert between stereo jacks to neutrik speakon so that we can use the HK speakers that we purchased from another church. I was pleased that the leads worked (well it was the first time I had made up speaker wires) and the sound from the new speakers was far superior to the old ones.
Tuesday 11th
I went on a walk I hadn't tried before. From the lower car park I took the Red Path to the summit of Moel Famau. From there I walked to Moel Arthur and back. The Jubilee Tower on the summit of Moel Famau reminded me of Weather Top in the Lord of the Rings film. Fortunately I didn't have to fight with the Nazgul but I did have to chase my cap when it blew away in a gust of wind.
Monday 10th
When I looked out in the morning there was frost on the cars and on the grass. I went to a DIY store and purchased some more screws and some wood.
Sunday 9th
I started work on the wooden framework.
It was bright, but a little cold and I finally got a decent picture of the Black Prince
Saturday 8th
The clipper race to Victoria, Canada started.
I cemented the last of the building blocks into position.

In the evening I went for tea at my parents.
Friday 7th
I openned one of the windows in my side porch. I was planning to replace the window, but when a big chunk of the window frame came off I realised the job was bigger than I anticipated. I removed the whole window frame and discovered that the building blocks below the frame were not cemented together either.
I setup the PA for the teens meeting in the evening.
Thursday 6th
I met some former colleagues in the cafe of a supermarket.
I went to a funeral and heard an amusing tale which was a bit unexpected. A couple of days before Dave died he played a trick on his wife. She was doing some tidying in the bedroom and when she looked up he was wearing a shower cap!
Wednesday 5th
Tuesday 4th
I went on shortish walk from Seacombe towards New Brighton.
Monday 3rd
The clippers all arrived in Qingdao yesterday.
Sunday 2nd
In the afternoon I watched the Australian Grand Prix, I didn't watch it live as I would have needed to get up at 5am. It was an amazing race with quite a few incidents, the safety car was deployed four times. For the third race a Renault driver stood on the top step of the podium, this time it was F Alonso. None of the Ferraris made it to the finish. Jenson Button looked likely to pick up quite a few points until his engine blew up within sight of the finish line.
In the evening we had a joint meeting with two other churches. The church building was packed and despite the use of mini-buses the car park was down to 3 spare parking spaces. The meeting went really well.
Saturday 1st
The morning wake up telephone call seemed very loud at 6.45! It didn't seem long since I went to bed. Well we did have a late night as we had our evening meal after 10pm.
I enjoyed the conference, though I was glad to return home late in the evening.
