The Union Flag known as the Union Jack is featured below. The flag represents how different countries Wales, Scotland and England came together producing a country which is considerably greater than the sum of its parts. After the union was formed the UK (Britain) became the first industrialised nation.

Since the industrial revolution the United Kingdom has been in the vanguard of technical innovation. The computer revolution began in Manchester University with the construction of 'Baby' the world's first programmable computer 50 year ago. The liquid crystal displays found in all laptops are based on technology developed at Hull University.
