Glasgow

Race 12: Jersey to Liverpool
There were two parts to this race. The positions in each part are as follows: Holyhead: 7th, Liverpool: 9th, giving a final position of 10th.

I took lots of pictures at the race finish

Race 11: New York - Jersey
9th, as they were the last boat racing they retired keeping their points (Cardiff had already retired).

Race 10: Port Anonio - New York
As the yachts lined up for the start there was some drama for the Glasgow team. They urgently signalled to the coastguard RIB that they needed assistence. New crew member Nicola Jolly the former Miss UK and Sky TV presenter had dropped a flip flop overboard. She was quickly reunited with her sandal. 4th

Race 9: Panama - Port Antonio
10th

Race 8: Victoria - Panama
The Glasgow team had the opportunity to practise their sewing skills when their no.3 yankee and staysail (forward sails) both ripped from seam to seam. While the sails were being repaired they travelled slower than usual and lost ground to the other clippers.
8th to reach the finish line.

Race 7: Qingdao - Victoria
8th position in what was fairly uneventful race for the crew, unlike some of the other clipper crews such as Jersey and Qingdao.

Race 6 Restarted
Glasgow was
8th to arrive in Qingdao.

Race 6
In preparation for each race the fleet victuallers are responsible for purchasing food and drink for the next stage of the race. The fruit and veg needs to be washed before it is taken on board, more about this later. The paper labels need to come off canned food (if the cans get damp/wet the labels come off and they can block the bilge pumps) and the cans need to be labelled using indelible ink. While preparing for the
6th race there was an incident involving the pontoon ramp and a supermarket trolley loaded with fruit + veg resulting in the need for another shopping trip.
Race 6 was abandoned as several clippers (Glasgow, Victoria + Durban) had loose keel bolts. The clippers were diverted to Subic Bay in the Philippine Islands so that any remedial work can be carried out. Cracks were found in eight of the ten clippers. In Glasgow's case the cracks were leaking water. Each of the yachts needs to be lifted out of the water using a cradle for a hull inspection / repairs.

Race 5
In the fifth race, crew member Denise Mellor had a fall below decks and suffered a suspected fracture to the arm. She was dropped off and given medical attention at Geraldton while the clipper continued racing.

Race 4
In the fourth race I guess that things have been quite tough on the Glasgow clipper since they were the last to arrive at Fremantle and shortly after the skipper (Graeme Johnston) announced he would be stepping down as skipper for personal reasons. The new skipper Rory Gillard had previously sailed with the London Clipper in 2002 for part of the race.

Race 1
The entry from Scotland was the Glasgow clipper.

I met a friend at lunchtime and spotted the clippers had started to
arrive at the Albert Dock.

On the 7th of September I spotted the glasgow clipper when I was crossing the River Mersey on a ferry.

I arrived just in time to see the clippers racing.

In the first race from Liverpool (UK) to Cascais (Portugal) Glasgow had a difficult time and was the last clipper to arrive.
