Clipper Race - 2005-06
31st July 2006
I was checking my email while eating my lunch. One of the emails announced that the clippers were leaving at 2pm. What time is it I thought to myself? I had planned to do some shopping in Birkenhead and a workout at the gym anyway so I thought I would drive to Seacombe to see the clippers off.
When I arrived I saw that the clippers were still making their way from Albert Dock to Canning Half Tide Dock.
There was quite a bit of traffic on the River. I saw the tanker Reinbek emerge from the Wallasey / Birkenhead Docks.
A tug the ferry Royal Iris and several other ships headed up the river. Several spots of rain came down and I was beginning to think of making a rapid retreat back to my car. Fortunately the rain held off so I was able to get pictures of the clippers leaving Liverpool for their base port of Gosport (Hampshire).
This picture shows the Arklow Rock passing Qingdao.
Some of the clippers motored towards the estuary. A few such as Cardiff, Jersey, Liverpool and New York sailed.
