Mersey River Festival: 2006.

The 2006 Festival is expected to be smaller than usual because of all the building work in progress. This year the mersey river festival (23rd -> 25th June) and return home of the clippers (29th July) should have been celebrated on the same weekend. Unfortunately the clippers were delayed.

Arrived on Friday 30th June (2006) and entered Langdon Lock and joined Eye of the Wind in Bramley Moore Dock.

Dimensions 72 * 10 * 4.8 with a tonnage of 676.

Eye of the Wind
I heard that the tall ship had arrived on 26th June (2006) in the Albert Dock. The more observant may notice that this is last year's picture... I had too much on to get a picture this time. She moved into Bramley Moore Dock to join the other tall ships. On July 13th I spotted her sailing for Copenhagen.
Dimensions 40 * 6 * 3.

Prince William
Before the start of the River Festival I spotted the arrival of a tall ship in
Birkenhead / Wallasey Docks June 22nd (2006).

Swan Fan Makkum
Arrived on Friday 30th June (2006) and entered Langdon Lock and joined Eye of the Wind in Bramley Moor Dock.

On Saturday afternoon I managed to get a picture of the ship while she was sailing around the River Mersey.

Zebu
Built in Sweden in 1938. Circumnavigated the world as part of Operation Raleigh. Now based in Liverpool and has been rebuilt over the last seven years by volunteers.
Official web site. I took this picture on 23rd June (2006) at the Albert Dock.

Kites over the Mersey

I arrived a New Brighton dips at the start of the festival (June 24th) on a overcast calm morning. Quite a few of the kites were still on the ground as it was quite early and the lack of wind was making things challenging. I couldn't wait for conditions to improve as I was on the way to a barbecue.

A couple of the large kites were airborn. To get an idea of scale look at the size of the children near the tail of the kite. In the background there is another kite being prepared.

High up in the sky I spotted this kite.

While I was watching there was a competition to see who get a kite the highest within a time period.

There were lots of banners and quite a few smaller kites such as these butterflies

HMS Albion

The Landing Platform Dock
HMS Albion berthed in Canada Dock and was open to the public 1st + 2nd July. Last time I saw her was at the end of 2002/2003 clipper race.

Clippers

The clippers were
delayed. They returned on the 29th July.
