Hibre Island
Hibre Island is actually 3 small islands:
Little Eye, the smallest is not shown in this picture
Middle Eye, the grass covered Island towards the top of this picture
Hibre Island, the biggest Island to the bottow of this picture.
It is now a bird sanctuary. In the Second World War the Germans spotted the radar mast and bombed the island thinking what they were seeing was a blacked out aircraft carrier.
In the past there was a lifeboat stationed at the island.
In 2003 a diabetic woman was airlifted to hospital after she fell on the Rocks between Middle Eye and Hilbre Island.
In March 2004 burglers were trapped on the island by an incoming tide and when the tide subsided they were arrested by the police.
In May 2004 a man was rescued by the West Kirby lifeboat from near Hibre Island.
