Places of Interest - Hoylake

There is a lifeboat based at Hoylake. On the open day in August (2001) the celebrations were interupted as the lifeboat had to be launched to rescue a sailing boat with engine troubles.

Picture Details
The tide was out so the lifeboat had to be driven quite a distance to be launched. Later in the afternoon it was announced that the sailing boat was being towed into Liverpool by the lifeboat. A happy ending.
The hover craft seen here was on trial. It could be useful for rescuing people stuck in mud.
The police helicopter was also present at the open day. I hadn't realised how big helicopters are!
A harrier jet also flew past several times. It is amazing watching a jet roar across the sky then see it just stop and hover. Harrier jets saw action in the Falklands conflict.
