Singapore

Singapore is located between Malaysia and Indonesia.
It is possible to drive from Singapore accoss the Straits of Johor to Malaysia. The causeway is likely to be replaced by a bridge in the future so that shipping can use the Johor straits.
Changi airport is located at the eastern end of the island.
The underground MRT system is currently being extended. There are two lines, the North-south line and the East-West line.
Singapore is very close to the Equator, so the temperature at midday is often 35C or more.
Sentosa Island to the south of Singapore is a theme park where people go to relax.

I have travelled to Singapore on business on two occassions.
My first visit was in November 2001.
My second visit was in March 2002.
This is the Singapore Parliament building (Nov 2001).
There are lots of really tall buildings in Singapore.
After the September 11th destruction of the New York Twin towers by suicide attack by hijacked planes tall buildings no longer seem so safe (Nov 2001).
This was the view from my hotel window. It looked really amazing at night with all the buildings lit up, unfortunately the pictures I took at night time didn't do the scene justice (Nov 2001).
This is the hotel where I stayed during my first visit. There was a swimming pool on the 3rd floor surrounded by palm trees (Nov 2001).
When I visited Singapore in 2002 I did some exploring and took pictures of some of the buildings overlooking the sea port (March 2002).
The company I work for have some offices on the 36th floor of this building.
The view was amazing, it was hard to see where the light blue sea joined the light blue sky.
I could see ships queuing to dock, barges transferring cargo between terminals, pilots, tugs and pleasure cruises swarming around.
Sorry there are no pictures of the view as I didn't have my camera with me on that day. (March 2002)
This tower blocks looks a little like the one of the archaelogies seen in the computer game Sim City.
I didn't see any window cleaners in action so I don't know how they handle the curved top part of the building. (March 2002)
On my second visit I stayed in this hotel.
I had never stayed in a hotel with a marble bathroom before.
From the lift lobby it was possible to see one of the smaller sea port terminals.
