Fast Ferry Designs

There are quite a few types of fast ferries. This page lists some of the fast ferries seen on the River Mersey. These ferries are often used by foot passengers and cars. They are much quicker than conventional ships. The main types of sea cats are identified in the table below.

74 metre twin hulled ferry made by Incat (Australia)
Having a service speed of 35 knots with a maximum speed of 40 knots. It can carry 80 cars and over 400 passengers
The seacat Hoverspeed Great Britain held the Blue Riband from June 1990 to 1997 for the fastest crossing of the Atlantic Ocean between the USA and Britain.
The car deck is accessable from both the bow and the stern.
81 metre twin hulled ferry made by Incat (Australia)
Having a service speed of 37 knots and a maximum speed of 40 knots. It has capacity to carry 140 cars and over 600 passengers.
The car deck on this large ferry is only accessable via the stern, but unlike the smaller model two cars can be loaded at the same time as there are two ramps rather than just one.
100 metre single hulled ferry made by Fincantieri (Italy)
Having a service speed of 38 knots with a maximum speed of 40 knots. It can carry 175 cars and 800 passengers.
The car deck is access from the stern via the two vehicle ramps.
