American Civil War

During the civil war things were difficult in the UK as we traded with both the Unionists (North) and Confederates (South).

Technically the last shot in the civil was fired by Fort Perch at the entrance to the River Mersey when the last confederate ship Shenandoah surrendered to the British.

The Alabama, was built at a shipyard on the River Mersey in the UK. The Conferate raider was used to sink Unionist commercial shipping.

In 2004 Prince Madoc was on TV. It was used as a diving platform investing the wreck of the paddle steamer Lelia which sank in a storm while on the way to america during the american civil war. The paddle steamer had been built locally and left with urgent supplies despite not being finished.
