LRFC News for September 2001

4th September:

The season started on 25th August with our first league game away to Perthshire a game which we lost 27 - 20. The early start to the season was a result of the Foot and Mouth epidemic and National League 2 having 11 teams instead of ten. The Magic of the SRU Championship Committee!

Our second league fixture resulted in another loss - this time to Dalziel at Milntown 18 - 17.

Langholm have formed an official club association with Hawick and already this has been put to use. Saturday saw three Hawick threequarters turn out for the "Muckle Toon " and our thanks go to Colin Turnbull, Gary Murdie and Brian Murphy.

The start of the season has seen a dramatic shortage of players, 2 still banned from last season and for some unknown reason the Captain and two others have taken off on holiday!

A new Fund Raising Committee has been formed chaired by Jimmy Hotson and they have already been in action twice this season - bravo!

The colts played their first match on Saturday 1st Sept going down to Berwick Colts 26 - 10.

Unfortunately the 2nd XV were unable to raise a side to take on Hawick Harlequins.

This Saturday (8th Sept) sees the visit of RAF Lossiemouth in the first round of the BT Cellnet Cup and unusually they are travelling by road! This will be a first time for the Airmen at Milntown..

Later this month should see the arrival of at lesst two overseas players (South African) and perhaps they will be able to instill some much needed oomph into the club. Eventually it is hoped that two Langholm Lads will repay the complement by travelling to S.A in our summer.
