Aixam Mechanics

I'll post here such technical info as I can gather, because there seems a lack of parts and maintenance data anywhere, never mind on the WWW. Just try looking up Aixam in the reference sheets for wipers, brake pads or filters at your local motorist shop. They all start at Alfa Romeo....   And try to get a Haynes manual! I hope some of it will be of use to drivers of other quad makes, the French marques have a lot in common, 2 cylinder liquid cooled engines, variomatic belt drive, Comex reversing box and braking, other mechanisms.

Note these pages may be useful reference for the competent mechanic but no guarantee is implied that the methods or information are the safe and proper repair techniques - if in doubt get a professional to do it.

There is also useful material on the Yahoo group "Aixam and Microcar", you can browse and search the hundreds of messages, but to see the files and photos you need to register. I've posted a few spares names and numbers in the files section.

Lots of pictures - may take a while to load.

Belt - replacement. These need doing regularly. Many photos..

Door mirror - The glass fell out.

Door hinge - I've had the door off to investigate some cracks.

Door internals - Inside door latch disconnected itself. Plus a look at the electric window. 

Exhaust - leaks here and there.

Front wheel bearing - not easy to get out 

Gearbox - new bearings, and a rear mount.  

Gearbox filler cap - Essential mod! Keep your gearbox oil inside the box. 

Gear lever - And neutral light switch.  

Heater controls - Neither of the knobs seems to work :o(  2 pages.

Heater demist - Hardly any air to the screen.

Overheat sensor - fried a bit when the coolant was lost.

Radiator bracket - found a broken end.

Rear brake - Seized lever causing dragging rear brake.

Rear brake cylinder and backplate - a rusty backplate and weepy cylinders.

Rear brake drums - uneven hand braking.

Rear pulley - strip, and shim the circlip. 

Rear wheel bearings - A little slack, and the inner seals gone.

Scuttle/rain channel - Cracking up; fairly common problem, unfortunately :o( 

Speedometer - Not happy when cold

Steering rack gaiter  - not a big job, they do seem to fail early.

Valve setting - link to the valve timing diagram for checking the clearances (Word doc).

Window switches - Strip and clean the contacts. 

Wipers - Front blade replacement and tweaking.

Wiring loom - Electrical panic - smoke under the dash !
