I don't just do electrics : Dieselling!
My first engine was a diesel (1969 D.C. Merlin cost 67/-) and I suppose once you get used to the smell you start to like it!
I saw Brian Cooper's Large Dart indoor model fly, and since the plan came free in RCM&E, all I needed was a throttled diesel. The Dart mob at Olympia spoke highly of the Czech MP Jet, so my own Dart was built behind one. Test balancing showed the extra weight of the ballraced MP Jet required the radio and battery moving back, so I did this. First flights outdoors showed nose heaviness but it was easy to fly. The 110mAh battery eventually moved to the tail and sat on the tailplane root. The engine was well powerful and the tail would flutter in a vertical climb ! I still have the airframe (retired) but built another with some mods recommended to me.
Here's a pic of Dart No.2:
Spec: One pound weight, Fleet rx, Hitec 80 servos (3), 15cc team-race tank lasts up to 8 minutes, 7 x 3 prop.
Overpowered with the MP Jet (lovely engine!) this one has a bigger wing and stiffer fuselage.
And Glowing!
The little chap below (hiding behind a 6inch ruler) was built a) because I like small models and b) because I had a Cox .010 and wondered if it could successfully lift radio control. It can. Easily. Goes like and sounds like a wasp in a jam jar. On speed. 90 seconds of brown adrenalin and suppressed laughter; I daren't laugh while actually flying it, the sticks tremble too much.
Demented Bee:
Spec: 5oz weight, 19 inch span, Fleet rx, Hitec 80 + 60, 110mAh battery, 3 x 1.25 prop, 25% nitro fuel.
