Speedi Sleeve

This is a clever refurbishing device for oil and grease sealed journals.

June 2010

You can see below why an oil seal on the diff has failed, and a new one wouldn't last long. This diff flange has already been cleaned up somewhat. The pits aren't going to come out without machining them off.

This kit below cost me about £18. The sleeve itself on the right is a very thin, hard stainless cylinder, with a removable flange for fitting. That can be left on if preferred.

The journal should be cleaned, large pits filled with metal epoxy, and a layer of gasket sealant applied (or the oil will leak under the sleeve!)

Then you hammers it down...

Until it covers the area the seal runs on.

Leaving a clean, smooth and hard wearing new sealing surface. Cherub's crankshaft pulley will get one of these next time it comes out.
