Victory for Team Eberspacher

What a great day for sailing, sunshine and a good 20 knot NW wind. In fact the wind was so good that even the best were caught out at times as the wind gusted to 35 knots.  The committee set two lap courses that kept everyone racing hard up and down wind for two hours. No one complained about being cold.

The Multihulls were away first with Scooby III starting on starboard tack at the left pin end of the line while Harvey Bowden’s Firebird ‘Orion’ and Ben Goodland’s Raider 30 ‘Team Eberspacher’ went for a port tack start. Team Eberspacher with RSYC Captain of Racing Kathy Smalley in the crew had a great tussle with Orion which lost some time due to navigation errors. Orion eventually taking line hoours by 4 seconds.  Tim Wilson's Dragonfly 920 Cold Fusion pulled ahead of Scooby III on the second beat. At the end of the first lap Scooby retired when the genoa ripped out of the luff groove. David Hyland's Dragonfly 800 then took fourth place.

Ben took the class win on handicap with ‘Orion’ second. Tim Wilson’s Dragonfly 920, ‘Cold Fusion’ took 3rd place.

The prizes, bottles of whiskey, were presented by Drystan Jones, manager of Ocean Village Marina.

The next race is on Sunday February 4th.
